탐라록 ‘방언 기억하기’

일러스트레이터이자 디자이너인 김예니와 미래세대가 함께 ‘제주어’를 기록하고 기억합니다. 서울과 런던을 기반으로 활동하는 김예니 작가는, 소멸 위기의 ‘제주어’를 지키고 있는 제주 방언 전문가와 제주의 해녀들로부터 방언을 수집하고, 제주의 미래 세대인 함덕초등학교 선흘분교 아이들과 이 수집된 방언을 나누었습니다. 그리고 아이들의 시선으로 시각화 한 방언에 예술적 가치를 부여하여 작품으로 재탄생 시켰습니다.

Tamlarok ‘Remembering the Jeju Dialect’

The artist in this exhibition is Yeni Kim, an illustrator and designer based in Seoul and London, who has created art works that interpret and visualize the Jeju dialect through workshops. In this artwork, she has tried to record the Jeju dialect in the form of art to help us all remember this disappearing language and pass it onto the next generation. She worked with a Jeju dialect expert and haenyeo (female divers) to collect regional expressions; the work will be shared with children from Seonheul branch of Hamduk Elementary School in Jeju.
